Final Self Portrait

My idea for my Final Self Portrait from some of the first reasearch and experiments I did for this project. I got the idea from the video of the man who took photos of his face everyday for six years. Obviously i did not have as much time as this however I wanted to portray the same idea as this by photographing myself in my home and around college over a period of time. I combined these photographs in a manner that makes them move very fast and the music i put on top of this film which i feel further accentuates this. i wanted to give the idea again of a busy stressful situation between college and my home.

Final Journey

Igot the idea for my final journey project from combining all of my ideas for this project together. I thought i waould like to portray the idea of a journey being my thought process. I filmed and photographed myself writing down all my ideas in a cronological order. I alos put one of my experiments into the middle of the film to show what i was thinking. I wanted to create the idea of a workspace and the idea that i was stressed and was working hard. i doodled on my page, left coffee rings, spilled juice, left empty bottles lying around and messed up tobacco all over the tabe. i wanted to give the idea of a busy, stressfull workplace, where my thoughts were documented.

Nam June Paik

Paik says " I am tired of renewing the form of music...I must renew the ontological form of music... in the 'moving theatre'... in the street, the sounds move in the streets, the audience meets or encounters them 'unexpectedly' in the street. the beauty of moving theatre lies in this 'suprise a priori' because almost all of the audience is united, not knowing what is, why it is, who is the composer, the player, organiser - or better speaking - organiser, composer, player," 1963

The worlds of Nam June Paik

" The Artist most identified with the transformation of video and t.v into new art forms "

Nam june Paik shows dynamic displays of light and imagery in this book. He uses media based art strongly affected by interests and movements through Asia, Europe and the US.

He worked at a time when electronic moving image and media technologies were increasingly present in daily lives. He also works with srong composition and performance.

Projection works - James Turnell
I like these still images of colour and shape as they give a strong sense of space and perspective. The way the shapes on the wall move to the corners of the room and back to the middle make them look like 3D shapes, when it is in fact just a shape projected onto a flat surface.

final journey idea

i thought it would be a good idea to document my ideas for the journey project onto some paper in my sketchbook and film and photograph myself doing it. i got this id from some of the stop motion videos i had watched previously. i decided this was a good idea as i could not make up my mind which of my experiments and ideas i wanted to develop and found some of them too literal and boring. this is a movie clip that will be included into my final piece.

morning journey

This is an experimental video I took on my way out of perth one morning on my way to college. I really like the colours and the shapes of the shadows, I didn't remove the audio with this video because I thought went well with the atmosphere I was trying to create.
This is an expeiment for my journey project. I wanted to use my journeys to and from college for this project, I also wanted to convey the idea of time by using a two videos overlapped. I like the idea that it seems like a sleepy journey, as if the morning and the evening merge toghther.

Aviorama

Live video show which shows images presented on three screens. Images taken from a local airport and control tower worked together into a visual and poetic film. I like this video because I like the idea of the three screens working together to make it look like one screen with the video appearing as one image. I would really like to try this effect although I dont have the resources for it at the moment. I am going to play on this idea with my self portrait and journey themes but using different video and still images together instead of seperate screens.

Self Portrait (experiment)

This is an experiment for my self portrait project. I decided to take lots of pictures of my face close up with the flash on the highest setting so that you can hardly see any of my features on some and others are on normal settings. I liked the idea that I could put photos on top of each other but I will have to take a lot more pictures before I can do this properly. I also importes a video clip from when I was on the bus to college in the morning, I liked the fact that it was dark and the pictures of my face were put on top of some of this clip. I really liked the colours in the sky and when I put the audio clip of Led Zepplin's staiway to heaven I thought it went really well with the slow sleepy morning mood of this video. I tried to make it look like i was more awake at the end of this video but im not sure if it was very effective. Ill try at again next time!!

Self

This is another video I found on you tube, it gave me an idea for my self portrait project above (experiment). I liked this video because throughout his expression stays the same, his weight seems to fluctuate and his eyes get older and more tired. I also liked the fact that you can see the progression of time through the changes in the background. It was taken over a period of 2356 days and the artist says its "a work in progress".

Touch See Believe

Art Installation: Touch, See, Believe

I found this video on you tube. It consists of three white beach balls suspended in airflow of three 18'' cooling fans. There are images of fire, Nevada Desert, and the Truckee River which represent fire, earth and water. I like this video as it shows a human collective desire for virtual image/object escapism.
